From cots to beds?

As kids grow up so fast it can be hard to know when you should move your toddler from their cot to a grown up first bed. Moving from a cot to a bed is a huge milestone for both you as a parent and the child. They will feel pride in their achievement and it will help them to gain a little more independence.

Knowing when to make the step up to a first bed is not always straightforward but you’ll begin to recognise the signs your child is making to consider moving up to their first bed. It is important to remember that every child is different. What works for one child won’t for another so don’t compare one child with a sibling or friend.

Typically a first bed for a child is advised to be a single bed or a toddler bed. This is simply down to a safety aspect as using ladders to access a bunk bed or mid sleeper is dangerous for a young child. If you child were in a position to fall from their bed, being lower to the ground is often safer.

There are a wide range of toddler beds and single beds available that your kids will absolutely love. It is always better to choose a bed that keeps your child safe rather than something that isn’t functional. Once they get older and can safely use a mid or a high sleeper then you might be able to invest in a new bed for them.

As your children age…

Once your kids are a little bit older and can safely sleep in their beds without falling out or injuring themselves, it is often a great time to invest in something a little higher. High Sleepers or bunk beds are often a great solution as they provide you with a lot of additional practical space as well as a comfy place to sleep on a night.

Whether you opt for a mid sleeper or a high sleeper, both kids beds options provide maximum storage solutions. Both beds offer multifunctional solutions that can be changed and adapted as your child grows up. You can shop for beds based on the other additional features you need in your child’s bedroom, such as beds that include wardrobes, draws, shelving, storage boxes, seating areas or even a spare bed. A high sleeper offers more usable space underneath the bed for older children in comparison to mid sleepers, however, both mid and high sleepers are a great solution for any older child.

Mid sleepers and high sleepers that incorporate essential storage and furniture reduce the need for additional furniture in your kids bedrooms. Meaning you can optimise how your kids use their room and incorporate more functional space whatever that need may be.

Choosing a bed for your child is tough, especially when you know that you want something more than just a standard bed. You’ve got to consider functionality, comfort, space and durability which can come often become mindboggling.
