Autumn is now upon us, and with it comes the hot chocolates, crunching leaves, snuggly sweaters and the perfect time to dive into autumn-themed creative play and activities for our little ones. It is such a visually stunning time of year and there are so many ways to enjoy the gorgeous colours and textures of the season or completely relax and stay snug at home.
Thinking back to our childhood’s we remember the fun of hunting for conkers. Finding a horse chestnut tree can be part of the fun but when you do find one why don’t you challenge the children to find different conkers. Smallest, biggest or shiniest. You could also see how many conkers they can fit in their pockets.
You can teach your kids the classic conker games of your childhood or even use them around the house to help keep the spiders at bay! Conkers have so many uses and help burn off some much needed energy from your little ones when searching for them!
Den building
The perfect activity for a rainy autumn weekend, den building is such a fun activity to do together as a family and give your kids time to get creative. Can you create a canopy over their beds? Balance two chairs together and put a blanket over? Grab their pillows and duvets from their bedrooms and create the ultimate den anywhere in your house.
A den is the ultimate space for your little ones this autumn and also might give you a little bit of peace and quiet to enjoy a cuppa and a biscuit for at least 5 minutes!
Stories and snuggles
With the dark nights getting closer and closer it makes for the perfect bedtime reading nook. Get the fleecy blankets, pull the duvet right up and the super soft pyjamas ready to snuggle up in bed and see your little ones’ imagination run away with endless stories and snuggles. There is something so magical to a bedtime story during the winter months.
Get creative!
Whilst out on autumn walks and admiring the colours and textures, make sure you are keeping your eyes peeling for natural craft materials. Pine cones and leaves make for fantastic craft materials with so many design opportunities. You could create a lovely autumn mobile, pine cone stacking and leaf prints with paints. Pine cones also make a great autumn table display and the kids can get creative with how they are stacked or presented in a vase.
Go to bed dreaming of stars
The nights are drawing in, so why not snuggle up in blankets looking at the beautiful night sky. See how many constellations you can spot and you might even see a special shooting star from the comfort of your own bed all tucked up!
There is lots of advice online to work out the different constellations, and patterns of stars and advice of when to see shooting stars. This is a memory your little ones will look back on and absolutely cherish when they are older. It will definitely get them off to a good night’s sleep!
